Thank God it was
FORT LAUDERDALE, and NOT Plantation.. -- Five
suspects have been arrested in connection
with a string of armed home invasion robberies
that happened over the course of more than
a year. On Tuesday afternoon, Fort Lauderdale
police announced the arrests of Milton Mobley,
21, the alleged ringleader, as well as 16-year-old
Cardarol Calloway, 18-year-old Donnie Gallimore,
19-year-old Tavaris Irvin and 19-year-old
Breon Davis. The five men are accused of targeting
condominiums, apartments and residences that
were under construction or being remodeled,
brandishing pistols and shotguns and taking
whatever they could. In all, the men are accused
of robbing 19 residences between January 2008
and February 2009. "What we've discovered
is that a group of these individuals would
not only prey on the construction workers,
they would enter the home and force them down,
very typical of a home invasion-style robbery,
and steal, not only belongings from them but
some of the stuff that was inside the residences,"
said Sgt. Frank Sousa of the Fort Lauderdale
Police Department. Sousa said the men stole
items including cash, jewelry and even vehicles.
"Each description of each home invasion that
we had were very similar in style and the
manner it was being done, and in almost all
these robberies, there were multiple weapons
seen," Sousa said. Most of the homes under
construction that were robbed were in the
suspects' own neighborhood, police said. Police
have recovered some of the stolen property.
They are searching for any possible additional
victims and possibly other robbers. Now more
than ever a reputable Plantation locksmith
is of great value.
